Here is the first of several Ofuro models.
The first is of a modern ofuro - its building and washing area. This building and its furnishings are very carefully made. The building is entirely traditional in design, although some of its furnishings are made of modern glass and metal materials. The first package contains a 7-page document describing the Japanese customs of bathing in an ofuro. Each of the components is illustrated and described in detail. The first package contains physically accurate shower water meshes, in addition to the ofuro model, and 7 bathing and showering poses for the Victoria 3 Poser model.
Japanese Clerestory-Lit Interiors and buldings also begin on this page.
A Clerestory (pronouned "clearstory") is an overhead window or series of windows that increase the amount of natural light in a room, and often can be used to provide light where there are no other windows or doors. We are using the English word "clerestory" here, but clerestories were invented and used in Japan since ancient times, probably before they were first invented in Europe and given this name. In Japan, they are used to provide light, and make for free movement of air in the more humid parts of the country.
Japanese clerestory design is so elegant, and allows for such interesting play of light within a room or hall, that we are devoting a series of models to their display. Three such rooms are shown on this page.
