Furnishings, in traditional Japanese homes, are mostly portable.
Since earliest times, Japanese dwellings had closets with shelves and shelves on the walls, but almost every other piece of furhishing was designed to be picked up and moved from room to room, or put away for the night in a closet. Rooms that served for working and eating during the day, became bedrooms at night when other things were put away, and bedding was brought out.
