Water – Salmon Pink


This is a pink water material for Maxwell Render and for Realflow. This color is useful for sunrise and sunset scenes – when you need a tinge (a small trace) of color in the water.

The zip file contains a folder with several material files, all with this same color, but varying in terms of light attenuation length. The materials with shorter attentuation lengths are suitable for relatively small water objects, while the files with longer lengths are suitable for larger objects.

Maxwell Render users will need only a single of these material files, and may adjust its properties as needed to suit their scene needs.

There are four cases in which you might want a trace of the Water – Salmon Pink color in the waters of your Maxwell Render or Realflow scene.

First, your scene might use a light or sun source positioned almost directly overhead. In this case, the default “pure water” material that ships with Next Limit products may display with great difficulty. You may be able to see the edges of the water, where light distortion is greatest, but your water will not be well-defined in your image.

Second, for close-up views, you might want small traces of color to enhance flowing waters when seen against certain objects in a scene, such as the brick wall shown in the second picture here.

Third, you may want a large body of water to have a one or more specific shades of color to contrast with other elements of your scene. For example, you want a waterfall to have one or more slight green colors.

And fourth, you may want the water to pick up the tones of a sunrise (as seen in the second image here) or a sunset.

Here are some technical details about the water materials in this package —

The color of the Maxwell Render Material “Water – Salmon Pink” is based on the European RAL 3022 color specification, using the HSV value 9, 156, 210 as used by Next Limit for this color. Different sources seem to provide significantly different sets of HSV values for the standard RAL colors. In general, I use the www.encycolorpedia.com conversion guide when I want to find the HSV specifications for a given RAL color. As nearly as I can determine, the colors created using the Next Limit HSV values for the RAL Blue series appear to be about the same as the colors made using the Encycolorpedia HSV values, but the Next Limit values tend to be a little brighter. Therefore, I used the Next Limit HSV values.

These materials also all have a forced dispersion value so that the color appears as evenly in a large body seen at a distance as in a small body.
