A cochin is a round, hanging paper lantern that may have small bamboo staves or other details. Typically used outdoors, in gardens, in front of shops or houses, and on festival grounds.

These include the "river" lantern hanging at the left, the "crane" lantern hanging next to it, and two classic (oblong and round) cochin.

The lower set of lanterns have bamboo grass-patterned washi cylinders hanging from thin horizontal bamboo sections that are mounted into a bamboo board. All highly detailed.
