"Kyodai" is the name given to the small vanity, or dressing stand used by to hold makeup, combs and other cosmetics.

By the beginning of the Meiji era, kyodai were being used by women at all levels of Japanese society.

The package includes a polished teak kyodai with the royal chrysanthemum theme, matching black lacquer jars for cosmetics, blown rose glass bottle and jar, combs and hair pins, wiping cloth designed for a Poser woman's hand, and other items. Combs and hair pins were the "jewelry" worn by Japanese women in the old days, so these are elaborate items.

Included document contains old photos and pictures of women at their toilet with these items. More things for women are in the Tools and Utensils section.
